Its a bitter sweet feeling when a season of hard work is over. Baseball and other sports are upon us, so it is good that the season is over but I had so much fun running this league I am sad at the same time. Parents: Thank you so much for your support this season. You have truly made this enjoyable for me. I didn’t know what to expect in our first year but your involvement and support succeeded all my expectations. Players: Your smiles, your attitudes and your effort made this year a labor of love. I hope you enjoyed yourself and learned a few things about what it takes to succeed at the Next Level.

Finally–to the Serra Padres. Your commitment to these kids, these families and to your head coach is second to none. I love you all like Sons. That is all I can say.

I will be sending out a letter later this week as a final follow up and to provide information for the 2013 Season. Next Level Flag—Year 1 in the books!

We are coming down the wire with final 3 games of the season. Sunday March 4th will be our final regular season game before I seed for playoffs. We will then have a two week playoff period for all teams.

NEXT LEVEL FLAG PLAYOFF STRUCTURE

  • After Sunday’s game (March 4th) I will be seeding the teams 1-8 in each division. If each team in each division has different points I will simply seed by points 1-8.
  • The 1-4 seeds will play for 1st place and the 5-8 Seeds will play for 5th place (two week playoff structure).
  • The first round of playoffs will be Sunday March 11th (all 8 teams will play in each division). 1 Seed vs 4 Seed, 2 Seed vs 3 Seed. The winner of these two games will play for the championship on Sunday March 18th. The 5 Seed will play the 8 Seed and the 6 Seed will play the 7th Seed. The winners of the these games will play each other and the losers of these games will play each other on Sunday March 18th. (The goal is to get into the top 4!)
  • The final round of playoffs we Sunday March 18th (all 8 teams will still play their final game).
  • When seeding, if there are ties in points I will break the tie by:
  1. Head to Head W/L—if there is still a tie then:
  2. Quality Wins above the Tie…if there is still a tie:
  3. Worst Loss below the Tie by seed (If this doesn’t make sense just trust me!)
  • The winner of each division will receive a 1st place trophy after the completion of the game!
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
DUE TO THE BAYWOOD TALENT SHOW, WHICH DIRECTLY AFFECTS THE 3RD AND 4TH/5TH GRADE DIVISIONS I WILL BE ADJUSTING THE GAME TIMES OF THE FOLLOWING TEAMS:
  • 3rd Grade Division-Wildcats will play at 10:00 Sunday March 11th
  • 3rd Grade Division-Auburn Tigers will play at 10:00 Sunday March 11th
  • 4th/5th Grade Division-Cardinal will play at 10:00 Sunday March 11th.
  • (These are the only teams, from my email requests for information, that are highly impacted by the talent show)
Unfortunately I will not know who the opponent for these teams will be until the completion of games on Sunday March 4th. I will post the schedule for Sunday March 11th  immediately following the completion of the games this Sunday so all can plan accordingly. It is very important for me to see young children challenging themselves in multiple areas of their lives. Music and artistic talent and the development of these God given gifts is very important to me and thus I have determined that this move is in the best interest of all involved! (Serra football has a long tradition of “Warrior Poets” on our team!) If your team is not part of the scheduling changes above then you will play at your regular time for the rest of the season. Please be flexible and thank you for your understanding.
I do know that baseball is beginning this weekend as well and could provide for conflicts. I will not be making any adjustments to any games for any other conflicts for the rest of the season.

On the 2010 Padres, our two starting WR’s were the stars in the Serra school musical. We have 6 kids on our team who currently play in the band! We will be playing the Wildcats playoff game on March 11th at 10:00 AM on the baseball field. Unfortunately I do not know who they will be playing until after next weeks games. A team will earn two points for a win, one point for a tie, and zero points for a loss. This really will clear up any confusion on dealing with ties.  Three more precious weeks of regular season play then we head into the playoffs.
