Coach Patrick Walsh has been around the game of football for over 25 years and has a unique passion for the game. With his two young children reaching “football” age he had the realization that football can be taught in many different forms to aspiring football players. Some young athletes are full contact football ready at a young age. Others need a welcoming introduction to the sport to build the love and passion for the game at a young age. Because of this, Coach Walsh is launching the inaugural season of Next Level Flag Football this January.
The instructional league is a 10 week program for kids, both male and female, from Pre K-through Fourth grade and will be broken down into six divisions. All instruction and games will be held on Serra High School’s (451 West 20th Ave. San Mateo, CA 94403) state of the art football stadium and field.
The Pre K Division will be group instruction and drills led by longtime football coach, Serra’s current Athletic Director and Certified Athletic Administrator, Dean Ayoob. The Pre-K Division will consist of an interactive Parent/Child environment with football skills and drills designed to teach the game. Our activities promote motor skill development and cognitive ability. With a parent engaged in the process, the kids will learn, in a positive and fun environment, skills such as: Running with the football, chasing others with the ball, catching and throwing the ball and listening skills. Parent participation is required in the Pre-K division.
The Kindergarten Division will be a 50 minute instructional division led by Coach Walsh and his staff. All young athletes will get the opportunity to learn the basic skills of football in a fun and engaging environment. As the program progresses and the kids improve, the athletes will be split into groups and will play 20 to 30 minute flag football games. This program is open to boys and girls! Each player will receive a first class jersey that they will keep as part of the registration fee. (We will take the first 60 athletes who sign up for this program)
