Spring Full Contact

In 2010 Coach Walsh decided to join the Golden State All-American Conference (www.gsfootball.org) and start San Mateo County’s first Spring Football team: The Next Level Stars. 2012 marks our third season of Spring Football. The Next Level Stars consists of four teams: The Starts, The Rookies, The Junior Varsity and the Varsity. The ages are from 6 years old through 15 years and we welcome student-athletes of all ability levels to play for the Stars. The Stars is a Grade Based/Age Protected structure. This allows participants to have the opportunity to play with their peers.

Why did Coach Walsh start Next Level Stars Spring Football?

  • The Starts and Rookies use an “X Man.” An X Man is a player who is over the posted weight limit but can still play on the offensive and defensive lines. This rule also allows players who have not been allowed to play in other youth leagues the ability to play football in a competitive environment.
  • There are no weight limits for the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. This gives prospective athletes who have wanted to play football in the fall for local youth teams, but have not been able to do so because of weight, a chance to play football.
  • Many kids who have decided that soccer, baseball, or other spring sports are not for them anymore now have a chance to play football in the spring.
  • Coach Walsh wanted to create a youth football experience which focuses on teaching in a positive environment. Coach calls this a “non-ego environment.” Teaching and learning the game is a priority for the Stars coaching staff. Coach Walsh does not tolerate negative and demeaning yelling at any time during practices or games. (See Next Level Mission Statement for more of Coach Walsh’s coaching beliefs).
  • The Stars is a Grade Based/Age Protected structure. This allows participants to have the opportunity to play with their peers.
  • Practices and Games are held at the beautiful facility of College of San Mateo with a few events held at Serra High School.
